Here at Aerco we have taken the initiative to help customers solve a serious component supply problem caused by the RoHS directive that bans equipment containing more than agreed levels of lead and other elements.
With component manufacturers concentrating on supplying lead-free components, many items that contained a combination of tin/lead plating are now on short supply or obsolete. This causes a real problem for companies working in markets such as the military and aerospace industries that are exempt from the directive.
Pure tin is subject to a phenomenon known as ‘tin whiskers’, electrically conductive, crystalline structures that grow from surfaces where 100% tin is used that can cause short circuits between closely-spaced circuit elements. This is a crucial issue in aerospace vehicles and satellites that are controlled over a long period by complex electronic systems.
To solve this supply problem we have increased stock holding of these difficult to source components and are also helping customers to source alternatives with gold contacts.
We consider it our responsibility to recognise changes in the supply process early and to provide a service that minimises the adverse effects. If your company is RoHS exempt and you would like more details of this service contact the Aerco sales desk today.
